    Was served horse meat in France a couple of times.
    French seem to prefer the neck meat, and it was tasty.
    Would do it again if it was served, but not out of preference.
    Horse was reportedly a delicacy among the American Indian.

    Had it in a couple of places in Europe and I agree.

    Had it in Oklahoma. Once upon a time the gubment gave canned horse meat to poor people. My elderly grandparents were in that group. My mom refused to eat it, but I recall it being pretty good. I remember it being kind of grainy, sort of like tongue.

    Growing up in the 40's and 50's, we joked that we ate everything but the hoofs on our feedlot calves. Routinely ate the organ meat, liver, heart, and mountain oysters when we castrated them, and always took tongue and brain sandwiches to school weekly.

    Waste not, want not.

    You should see my two daughter's faces when I tell them that ...

    Fed my kids tongue in the past year. They just thought it was venison. lol

    Mom, half German, had a regular school lunch regimen for the kids.
    Monday thru Thursday:

    Peanut butter and jelly sandwich;
    tongue sandwich (deli sliced);
    brain patty sandwich (cooked like hamburger meat);
    chicken or rabbit salad sandwich;
    and EVERY Friday, without fail - tuna fish sandwiches, like good little Catholic kids, apparently you went straight to hell if you ate meat on Friday.

    We also took a dime for a bowl of dishwater soup (they still had what passed for cooks in the school cafeterias in those days), and a carton of milk.
