Oh yeah - the monitoring has been going on for a VERY long time. Given that 99.9% of us are plain-joe law-abidin' citizens, I'd bet it gets a tad boring for 'em..... ;)

If you are listening NSA data miner, I got a call last night during dinner from Verizon asking me if I was happy with my long distance surveillance. You bastards. LOL j/k

You know what we should do, start sending emails out at random with all sorts of keywords like those above......but with disgusting and disturbing porn pics attached. Eventually they will get fed up with it to the point where we'll probably hear on the news that the "Echelon" system is being shut down. LOL

Due to an alarming increase in traffic, thousands of new screening personnel are required to meet new threats. When does a gov't program go away?

The Internet has been monitored one way or another since day one. Just depends upon what level of monitoring you are talking about. Almost all sites keep access records, so even if something is not monitored, it can be found in archives.

I can find posts I made on USENET in the 1980s.

Does it really matter if you have nothing to hide? As a law abiding citizen, it takes a great deal of time just to keep abreast of the current legislation. The last thing I want on my record is any questionable activity, especially associated with firearms. The laws (in most of the US) are pretty liberal about ownership compared to the rest of the world.

25 years ago it was nearly impossible to gain access to private information about an individual or organization because wired phones and mail were more difficult to monitor. Now that your computer is online 24/7 you can bet that everything has already been archived off of it, by numerous organizations both legally and illegally. If you think a firewall is keeping anyone from your information, well just keeping thinking that, you will sleep better. All or nearly all of your communication is wireless, and subject to interception despite what anyone tells you. Microsoft goes to great deal of trouble to archive your deleted data in unused portions of the huge harddisks people have today.

My advice is to use the smallest disk drive that your computer can support, and operate, and move all personal data to external disks that are not kept plugged in. You should put your computer to sleep when you are not using it, and turn off any wireless routers that are not being used.

    Paranoid? You should be...

    My 2 cents...

Sounds like you have some technical experience, I would love to hear more!
