How long will it be flooded?

    Unknown at this time.
FM 521 is still closed. Can't get out there to assess.
Water hasn't receded in the Brazos as far as I can tell.
Still hoping for Tuesday but it ain't looking good.

    Sunday just an off-the-cuff thing.

If Tuesday doesn't work out, we'll make it another time. I'm dedicated to the idea that I need to get down there this year. It's been too long since I shot there.

One thing to consider - If 521 is still closed today, even if it opens up tomorrow the range will likely be a muddy mess downrange for several more days. I'm still hoping for Tuesday, too, but if it's not to be we'll make it happen another time.

Tracking down the official word from the TxDOT road conditions site and the National Weather Service Severe Weather Watches and Warnings, the situation doesn't look good. Per TxDOT, the 521 closure extends for many miles. The range is sorta wedged in there between the Brazos and the Brazoria Reservoir, so conditions on the Brazos seem like a good indicator. Per the NWS, near Rosharon:

The Flood Warning continues for the Brazos river near Rosharon
    * until further notice... or until the warning is canceled.
    * At 0916 PM Friday the stage was 50.2 feet.
    * Moderate flooding is occurring and moderate flooding is forecast.
    * Flood stage is 43.0 feet.
    * Forecast... the river will continue a slow fall and may fall below below moderate
flooding levels of 47 feet on Tuesday.

That's north of you and the water is still headed your way. I can only conclude that the forecast to "fall below moderate flooding levels...on Tuesday" is probably over-optimistic for your range.

Bottom line - I think your "...it ain't looking good" is probably a bit of an understatement. I'm gonna pack the car on Monday, anyway, but we need to communicate Monday afternoon to make a final decision about the outing.

    Also - PM sent.

    Hey Moonpie,

If you're interested I'll probably be heading to the BRI Juliff range Sunday morning and you're welcome to be my guest. You may need some boots for the squishy spots down-range but at least it's not flooded.

Juliff is down off of 288 and County Road 57 which is a couple of miles south of Highway 6.

CR 57 runs between Iowa Colony (at 288) and Juliff (where it intersects with TX 521).

What time are you planning on being there? If SWMBO has no plans, I may be able to wander over that way.

    Crush, kill, mangle, maim, destroy.

Morning, probably 9am to 11am or so. I've got to be over near Friendswood around 1pm and will need to get some lunch prior to that.

I'll be on the 25/50 yard lanes getting targets shot for the RFC offhand challenges.
