They're worried about colonial as a value when they have the name of a slave owner for their university? I'm surprised they hadn't changed it to George Floyd University.

I'm wondering who came up with the idea?
Although I teach at a college, it's hard for me to argue with those that advocate against college, because in many fields it has been corrupted. I'm happy that I teach a trade, and not a profession (i.e. doctor, lawyer). Also, universities are more woke than community or junior colleges IMO.

I'm working on a project that crosses a university campus.
I saw stuff today that turned my stomach.
The bulk of the students attending orientation were more normal than I expected.
The little stickers and signs pasted here and there (obviously not campus approved, but not exactly discouraged) were just maddening. Faggotry and Satanism at every turn.

I think I'll invest in a gross of Christian symbol stickers and see how long it takes to be accosted.

Sigh I've given up on people...
So if it's a bad word what do we call it.
Seems to me that there were 13 colonies in the beginning right? So how does that change history
My thinking is, if they "sanitize" history and erase certain portions, or even rewrite it to fit a certain narrative, I think they believe they can change the future.

But that's pure bullshit. Without knowing and studying history, even the parts that are less flattering, it dooms us to repeat mistakes already made in the past.

I think they main reason they do not like the words colony, colonial, etc is because they do not want people to think of them. They do not want folks in former colonies in Africa, central/south America, and so forth think about how things were as colonies compared to the "independent" standard of living there now. That might result in awkward question about why things have gotten worse - instead of better - since the evil, exploiting, colonizers have left.

Although in part that may be true, I tend to disagree with your assessment. It's much like in the novel 1984. This and many other issues today are an attack on your sensibilities. Critical thinking (Using thought and logic to come to a conclusion) is giving way to critical theory (a philosophy that involves a moral critique of culture). This is how socialism begins.
