I am trying to find some information on a build I wanted to start. I'm looking for a 7.62x39 pistol lower to build a 7.62 AR pistol. I know DPMS makes one but didn't see it on their site. Who else makes them? and can I just get a lower and add the tube onto it? I haven't ever built one before so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, there are mags available. I believe they may be standard mags with different followers, but the feed lips may be bent different also.

The 7.62 x 39 may be a little recoil heavy as a pistol configuration, not that anyone shoots an AR pistol one handed. It might be hard to control. Also, AR pistols are finicky about feeding properly with a shorter barrel, and an unusual round in a pistol may compound the problem. If you are new to building ARs, this may be a very difficult build. Generally, if the big name makers don't offer this configuration, there probably is a reason. It may come down to demand, but it may also be because of mechanical difficulties. Don't get me wrong, I am all about trying new things, and I say go for it, but be prepared to pull your hair out also.

I'm a mechanic so I deal with new stuff and tinkering with stuff all the time. I'm sure it wouldn't be all that complicated and I'd figure it out. I might go ahead and do it anyways.

C-Products makes 7.62x39 mags specifically for AR lowers. Though they aren't always flawless, they are pretty much your best bet. I have had good luck with the 6 or so that I have.
