What would keep you from seeing the ears?

That grip completely covers it up. It's known as the 'Grip of Shame' because every time someone posts a thread 'I broke my AR lower' after they bust off a piece of the trigger guard people suggest using the Stark grip to hide the broken off piece.

Adding windows would let AR hipsters use that grip and not confuse people into thinking its a broken gun only using the grip to hide a hammer & punch booboo.

Is that why Daniel Defense Grips are like that?

The DD ones I see with from a quick search have cutouts on the integral trigger guard for the ears to fit over. They don't cover the entire area up like the Stark does.

So no, the DD is not a suitable grip of shame.

Added: if you search for 'AR grip of shame' the first result is a guy who busted off an ear and is using the DD because he doesn't mind showing off his broken lower. Followed by lots of 'oh no! I broke my lower, what do I do?' threads. The answer is usually Da Stark.

Never heard of it and doubt the first thought of the average person would be "ermagerd, he broked it".

Also, if the grip is a better fit for an individual, why give a damn what some moron at the range thinks.

Just outshoot them and move on

Most people who put together lots of AR lowers know of the Grip of Shame. Every person who's broken an ear off knows it.

It's sort of like seeing an AR with the optic mounted backwards. People notice, especially the ones who BTDT. But wutever, everyone's free to use what they like.

Most people never build a lower. They just buy and shoot, then swap easy parts. Like grips, and stocks.

I can say on this site I've not once seen a reference to using that grip to cover a broken ear until now.

I couldn't see it anywhere near the the level of a backwards optic. Especially considering maybe 2% of the population would associate it with a broken lower where I'm thinking maybe 20% of range ninjas would notice the optic issue.

I got a magpul grip from somebody at one of the Hville meets.

I like it, big improvement over the thin standard AR pistol grips.

Anything is a big improvement over an A2 grip.

I like standard Hogue grips for most of my ARs.

I figured the Stark was pretty functional. It covers the trigger guard, battery storage, sling attachment point and grip. And I've never broken an ear. I've got Magpul too and Bravo's. It''s just a grip.

While I agree about not seeing much about broken ears, would you post it up here if you did it?

Like most members here, I search before I throw every question out there. If I broke an ear and found that grip to cover it up I wouldn't tell you guys about it.

All Hogue for me. Love them on my CZ clone pistols. Only natural to put them on ARs.

I might try a DD grip just for giggles, only because I've got their stock on several of mine and it's my favorite.
