I am loading ammo for a new AR-10 and would like to use:

    Hornady 150 SST bullets
    44.2 Grains of IMR-4895
    WLR Primers
    Winchester Brass
    *Bullets crimped to cannelure.

This is not a maximum load in the Hornady Handbook of Cartridge Reloading, 8th Edition.

Should I back off and use the Hornady 308 Winchester Service Rifle data?

    Thanks!

You don't have to reduce the loads for an AR10. I don't even think you have to for an M1a. It is mainly the Garands that can't handle full house factory loads but milsurp ammo is fine.

I load midrange loads of 4895 and 165gr SSTs for my DPMS AR10 and it will put them in less than an inch group at 100. I don't remember the exact charge though. Took a nice buck with it the other day.

I know the next time I see those bullets on the shelf I am loading up on them.

I've used both sets of data in the same book and both function the rifle reliably with a DPMS LR 308. While YMMV I would say you should be OK, but ALWAYS check for signs of over pressure on each shot to make sure. Never trust anyone but yourself. Whether you're reloading milsurp brass can affect your charge weight too.

Just make sure you size the cases correctly or learn to pogo that jammed round out. I shoot 40 gr. H4895 or H335 with 165 gr cast.
