Does anyone know if there is any difference in the .243 and .308 receivers for armalite ar-10's? I got one in trade and I was told it was "improperly stamped .243". I'm wondering if this was likely just a conversion to .308 with a new barrel and bolt? Or if it's really possible it was stamped wrong...

I have had it to the range once and it successfully remained un-exploded during firing.

there is no difference in lower recievers between the 2 except for the stamps. the gun you have could have been built by someone other than armalite.

Cool! I figured if the dimensions were the same it probably didn't matter, just thought I would ask. Although, I was 'thinking' it was stamped on the upper receiver - but now that I remember correctly it was the mag well. All is well in AR-land.

.243 is a necked down .308 ... when I first started shooting .308 I just took a bunch of .243 brass and opened it up to .30 .. Threw my friends for a loop as my shells were always stamped .243.. :)
