Arrogance Run Amok: Obama Says Americans Aren't 'Thinking Clearly'
It's amazing that people like Barack Obama, Nancy Pelosi, and Harry Reid are Washington politicians. Do they possess the political skills it takes to get elected? Clearly they do. But what's amazing is that they are in the profession of representing the American people when they seem to have such disdain for the people they represent. If one is representing America, shouldn't that person actually like and respect Americans? In recent comments, Obama once again showed his arrogance by blaming the American people and not his policies for the economic mess the country is in.
As noted in a story in Politico.com, during a Democrat fundraising event in Massachusetts, Obama "faulted the economic downturn for Americans' inability to 'think clearly' and said the burden is on Democrats 'to break through the fear and the frustration people are feeling.'"
"Part of the reason that our politics seems so tough right now and facts and science and argument does not seem to be winning the day all the time is because we're hardwired not to always think clearly when we're scared," Obama said Saturday evening in remarks at a small Democratic fundraiser Saturday evening. "And the country's scared."
These are incredible statements. Unlike Barack Obama, I'm quite confident all of you can understand what he's really saying. What Obama is trying to get across to Democrat donors is that his policies are good (probably "perfect" in his mind), and the only reason the Democrats are going to go down in flames in a few weeks is because the American people are not "thinking clearly." Hopefully, I'm not the only one who is offended by such talk.
Obama is not the only one with this attitude. As Andrea Tantaros points out in her column on FoxNews.com, Vice President Joe Biden recently stated, "Democrats aren't running on the administration's accomplishments like health-care and financial-regulatory overhaul and the stimulus because it's just too hard to explain."
Remember the slogan, "It's the Economy, Stupid?" Clearly that message applies to this election cycle, but there's another way to sum up America's frustration as well: It's the Policies, Stupid. The American people don't like the policies being implemented by Obama and his team, and they have made their opposition -- not just frustration -- clear. Americans were opposed to Obamacare, yet Obama, Pelosi, and Reid pushed it through anyway. Now, Democrats are running from Obamacare as if it were the plague. Americans are opposed to bigger government, yet Obama keeps giving us more.
Tantaros quotes Democrat Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell as saying the following regarding Obama and his team: "They lost the communications battle on both major initiatives, and they lost it early." Rendell was referring to Obamacare and the stimulus, but who had the bully pulpit? Who's message was getting out? Obama gave plenty of speeches, held numerous press conferences, and had the media helping him at every turn. Communication was not the problem. It was the policy.
Obama may blame the American people for not "thinking clearly," but in a very few weeks, Americans across the country will send a clear message to the Democrats. That message will certainly be one of frustration, but it is also a message that we want lower taxes, smaller government, and less spending. Hmmmm... perhaps those concepts are just too difficult for Obama to understand.
