After reading a few (cough) threads, How do ARMALITEs rate? My lack of aptitude precludes "just" building it myself. looking at the 20" .308 model.

Their AR10s take Armalite's mags only. The DPMS and P Mags will not work in them.

Besides magazine availability I am not very familiar with them.

I have a DPMS and love it btw.

Have look at the DPMS line as well, because they have longer barrel lengths listed. It will be a low round count gun so I shouldn't "need" a lot of mags. besides with my luck, I'd never run across any to scavenge anyway.

I own one and would buy another without hesitation. Great warranty (lifetime) customer service is ok but mostly due to them living in a constant state of backlogged. I would put them up against anything out the is off the shelf. Yea wish they used P mag but they don't. Got great bbls in SS, triple lapped, very accurate weapons.

    False.

ARmalite introduced their AR-10A line of 7.62x51mm rifle that accepts other mags and the plastic ones too. FWIW ARmalite has had sales on 5 and 10 round lots for big discounts. Get in early for those and you'll never bitch about price and availability. I have shot several in this platform and do own a ARmalite AR-10. Mine is very well built and accurate for an off the shelf rifle. Tolerances and QC is good for them and at times have gotten a bad rap for rifles that may need more rounds through to get the rifle to open up a little. Add extra lube from the beginning and you'll be okay.

My next purchase is a carbine and Im staying with the B model since I have over 30 mags and dont need any plastic ones.

I would love an Armalite for the ability to install a Noveske barrel.

For now a DPMS will do.
