Ran across this one and thought it was worth sharing. It's a good read.
I've been shooting 165g Hornady SST bullets in my 30-06 (really SST's in all our hunting calibers). In white tails, at ranges of 100 to 200 yds, almost always the bullet passes through the animal and is not recovered. 30 yds max is the run space of the animal after being shot.
In a 220# axis Buck, it ran 40 yds, and I recovered the bullet, mostly intact, just inside the hide on the back side.
I'm really curious what it would do on a mule deer or elk.
Enjoy the read.
