King--being from New York--has no choice but to hew to what his constituents are screaming for. However, that certainly isn't good enough reason to try to accomplish legislatively what is known to be unconstitutional. It's a new legal environment for the Second Amendment post Heller and McDonald. And that makes a HUGE difference in our favor.

What needs to lose steam is mass shootings. The last few years have been pretty whacked. Not sure how many more 20+ dead school kids we can survive.

They're generating as much hysteria as ever. Sadly I don't expect they will anytime soon.

Another Las Vegas, Parkland or Newtown and we'll have a new AWB and without a sunset provision.

The conditions are too perfect. An NRA that weak across the board, a Republican POTUS that has no problem with more gun control and a fracturing GOP as a whole make it too easy for them to fold.

I still don't know how we didn't end up with another after Newtown. I guess the politics just didn't line up at the time.

    This isn't 2012 anymore though.

While 99.9% of politicians are slime balls, they aren’t all idiots.

Older Democrats remember getting routed after the last AWB. They and the RINO Republicans should also remember Waco and Ruby Ridge.

Anyone, of reasonable intelligence and knowledge of the issue, knows that an AWB (especially with a mandatory “buyback”)

    1. Won’t make anyone safer
    2. Will result in a lot of political anger and motivation
    3. Will be tough and bloody to enforce.

Politicians aren’t as motivated to actually pass legislation, as they are to say and do what gets them donations and election wins.

    Yep.

Republicans had not controlled House in the prior 20 session of Congress before the 94 AWB. After passage of AWB, they controlled it for 6 straight sessions, and since 94 AWB, controlled it for 11 of 14 sessions. The Democratic led AWB was the best thing that ever happened to modern day Republicans.

I do not have the confidence that the result would be the same today. I truly fear the tide has shifted.

I agree. Too many gun owners already have AR-15s and HiCap mags and would not care. But I think some Critters would take a hit in certain districts.

Keep in mind the last AWB did not take anybodies guns. Just caused them to become very valuable. The actual value of an AR15 only recently began to even out. Yep our own makers have used the sunset of the AWB to continue to rip us off.
The Socialist and the Wimps (repubichairicans) are intent on confiscation today. And Trump has set the stage with his illegal Bump Stock Ban. No buyback, no nothing. Just an imperial decree and poof your stuff is gone or hidden away. Created criminals. There is slight hope the SCOTUS will overturn things but based on how slow its going I'd say its something they are in no hurry to do.

Agreed, but as we know the firearm is only a tool. It would be nice to see a really independent study/resolution that looks at all factors. Right now the left says ban all guns, the right says lock up the loonies and never the twain shall meet.

And I say with school back in session, 3-5 school shootings with 20+ dead in each before Xmas is something we cannot control and cannot survive.

Eliminate the prior 2-3 shootings and this thread would not exist. So much is out of our control.
