rage quitting in 1234!Hey TXAZ check out the CIVILITY thread. He is now all butt hurt.
It's uncanny how closely this matches my experiences. At home, I have 1GbE fiber all the way to the wiring closet where the ONT is. I happened to be working for a subcontractor of AT&T at the time and I "let on" as much on install day. His supervisor called early on in the install and was told of my affiliation. I got carte blanche service, up to and including "I've got the credentials pulled up on my laptop, so please don't look as I turn away to gather my tools".When they split and recombined, they didn't go back to the old structure. AT&T operates like a bunch of small companies, with one boss who they hate. Coincidentally each unit doesn't know what the others do but they also know they can't help either. So they'll happily transfer you to someone who will happily transfer you to someone who will happily transfer you to someone who will happily transfer you to someone who will happily transfer you.
The consumer side is ironically in better shape than their enterprise services. You can typically find the person you need, and if you give them your courtesy and respect they'll generally do their best to help. I have AT&T fiber at home (only connection that offers 1GbE symmetric), and on install day they contacted me to replace everything. They were changing setups, so the previously installed stuff had to go. Existing was GPON with an exterior wall mounted ONT connected to an interior gateway over copper. The new setup was simpler, fiber coming into the building with an integrated ONT/gateway/WiFi router device. Install calls for them to establish a demarc on the inside wall immediately adjacent to the ingress point. I was able to talk my installer into making me his helper, and we pulled the fiber all the way through the attic and into my wiring panel at the opposite side of the house. Much cleaner install than sitting my router on my workbench in the garage.
On the enterprise side, the trick truly is finding the one person who actually can or will help you. Once you get there, things typically sail pretty smoothly, but the journey will typically take a couple hours if it's something at all out of the ordinary.
But then there's the billing aspect, which is always a disaster. Especially enterprise. I've lost track of how many disputes I've filed, and credits we've received to correct the invoicing over the decades.

Corporate gobbledygook, my DTV bill has long been on ATT letterhead.laVieux:
you may want to check your facts, as AT&T sold DIRECTV in 2021.
AT&T Finalizes sale of DirectV
I switched to Consumer Cellular a few months back and haven't noticed any change in the service and my hot spot phone is my sole connection to you fine people, videos, etc.As far as Consumer Cellular, Mint , just know what you are getting (and not getting). You get the same *coverage* but also the lowest priority.
So when a tower is heavily loaded you get substantially less bandwidth / are the last to connect.
No issues as long as you understand the value proposition.
<>@leVieux
You are far from wrong.
DTV was ditched already.
ATT is next. Sucks that the wife does contract deals. She has orders to discover the cost of a buyout. They have till I can afford said buyout to bring back diversity. I want Newsmax back; I want OAN back.
To be real ... Newsmax streaming works a treat for me. I enjoy ATT watching me stream Newsmax across their bandwidth during this countdown.
Breath brother.

That’s a deal then. If you’re the only user on a cell tower sector or the tower is lightly loaded, your speed will be excellent, depending on how far you are from the tower. But if someone builds a housing project between you and the tower and those are mostly AT&T, Vz or T-Mobile users, you pro won’t enjoy the experience. Similar to Mint mobile users in a few cities where the cell towe layout is less dens, busy hour in the morning and afternoon is problematic.…

Of course I live out in the sticks so that may be a factor too.
Ditto, here, but Patriot Mobile for me. Love 'em.Corporate gobbledygook, my DTV bill has long been on ATT letterhead.
I HATE DTV customer service, it blows soooo bad! As has happened many times over the 10+ years I've had their service, last month I resolved a billing dispute and forced them to verbally state the amount future bills would be; current bill was nearly double the stated amount. I swear to God they document our discussions with Crayon and a Big Chief tablet.

We had been SW Bell customers rolled over to AT&T for years. Switched to Consumer Cellular and have service IDENTICAL to previous AT&T service. Verizon is OK out here in the country where we are but not as good (tower location) and T-Mobile is poor for the same reason. We often travel/camp fairly close to home for long weekends and have found CC to work great. We are on the basic plan and our data capacity expands dynamically with usage and is very reasonably priced. It is much cheaper to stay on the basic (data) plan than go on the unlimited data plan which isn't really all that bad. That’s a deal then. Trac-fones are similar.
But if it’s working for you then God Bless.
I LOVE that app! It’s very fast and much easier to use and understand than Apple iPhone “Field Test Mode” (*3001#12345#*. )There's an Android app called Network Cell Info Lite - it's free and will give you all sorts of data and statistics on your connection (they just recently added Wi-Fi stats to the existing cellular stats). Most of us won't need much of what it offers, but one neat feature I like is it will show you on a map where the tower is that you're connected to. Was turned onto this app by a Verizon cellular engineer.
I think I know where my tower is, thanks for the info. There's an Android app called Network Cell Info Lite - it's free and will give you all sorts of data and statistics on your connection (they just recently added Wi-Fi stats to the existing cellular stats).
