Here's a quote from a friend of his in an e-mail I received:
"He was clearing out his gun safe to give his rifles to his son when two became entangled and the bolt handle of one rifle hit the trigger of an 8 mm that had not been fired in 15 years. Apparently there was a round hiding up in the chamber they did not know about that probably did not extract when the rifle was last fired and cycled during unloading. The rifle went off and shot Barry in the neck and exited the spine killing him instantly. The family was in the house and heard the shot and it was immediately apparent there was nothing that could be done to save Barry. That’s how powerful it was. We are still getting details, but I wanted to share this with you guys. The bottom line is that we all handle rifles all the time and it is easy to get too comfortable and forget that freaky things can happen, even among those who practice safe gun handling."
