Since all my guns went to the bottom of lake Buchanan... I need an inexpensive rifle in .308 like an Axis or such for deer season in case I get a drawn hunt

Comes with a 3x9x40 Weaver, should be good for normal distance. not extra long range.
I have one I have not shot, I am a slacker.

That weaver scope is crap. Glass is not very clear. If you only shoot it at 100 yds, maybe it will work. But if you have anything other than a close shot it will be extremely frustrating.

I had to swap mine out. I put a Zeiss on it because I had one laying around. Geez. What a difference.

Well, I was hoping for a bare bones used rifle that I would not worry about loaning to a son or grandson if we got drawn for a hunt or did a day hunt somewhere. I do not want to lay out money for a nice rifle that someone will undoubtedly bang around, drop or use the barrel as a prybar. (you guys do not know my relations - probably would be better off to not take any of them... but....) Wanted to keep it to 200 or less - I have a scope I would not mind putting on it (old Weaver POS) Thanks for all your feedback and help... Going to hit pawnshop and if all else fails.... loan them a large rock

Good luck, but finding any decent rifle below $200 these days will most likely be a quite the challenge...

Savage Axis XP at Academy will be a good choice like someone else said. I paid $279.

I had low expectations. But shot a 3/4” group with factory ammo with my 6.5 creedmoor.

They are good rifles. Those cheap Weaver scopes are crap. But the rifle is good.
