I carry a concealed handgun IWB, behind my hip daily. Whenever possible, I also carry a second 'backup' handgun in my front pocket (Walther PPS .40S&W). I've been doing this for almost 20 years now. Before I switched to my PPS .40, I pocket-carried my Kahr PM9, and before that it was my Colt Mustang Plus II .380 or Beretta Tomcat .32

I'm guessing a lot of folks will think that's a bit redundant or even overkill, but I'd rather be safe than sorry and as long as I'm not wearing tight pants (which I never do) I don't find it to be inconvenient or uncomfortable.

Do you carry a backup gun? If so, what kind and what carry method/placement do you use?

That's a mean little pistol. My wife carries one daily. I enjoy shooting it and considered it for my backup, but it's just too fat for pocket-carry (in my opinion). For ankle carry, I bet it's perfect, but I spend too much time sitting at a desk to conceal a pistol on my ankle. If I could carry on my ankle, I'd definitely consider the Glock 27 - it holds 3 more rounds than my PPS.

When I got my CHL 9 years ago my instructor had a G17 on his side and a G19 in his back and a derringer on his belt buckle. He swore he carried like that everyday. So I think a PM9 or whatever as backup isn't to much.

G27 main gun at waste. NAA mini revolver in pocket. Just a touch better than a pointy stick but I would rather have two guns than one gun with multiple mags.

PPS front pocket while also carrying IWB? Must not be wearing jeans. More power to you. To me, that setup would result in too much pant sag, with all the weight being on one side. Doesn't it also make the pocket gun harder to access?

I like my backup gun to be the fasted possible to access, say from a vehicle, but in a comfortable location, so jacket pocket or shoulder holster. I really don't consider it a backup though, just one possible option depending on the situation.

20 years ago most of those guns were not yet invented/manufactured.

The Walther PPS is not a front pocket pistol, unless you are Ten Feet Tall with extra large britches and pockets.

My back-up gun is a Mini-14 locked up in the trunk of my car, and it sits next to a Remmy 870 loaded with buckshot.

That should cover most self defense scenarios.

If not, I've got an MQ-18/ACV personal drone on call 24-7.

Seems to me that an extra magazine would be better than a second, smaller, less accessible pistol.

I wear relaxed fit jeans 3 days a week, Friday - Sunday. At 6' & 175lbs with a 32 waist, I suppose I am a fairly slender guy. I carry my HK P2000sk in a soft sided Uncle Mikes's IWB holster behind my right hip and carry my Walther PPS in a soft Blackhawk! size 4 pocket holster in my front right pocket. I wear a sturdy belt and don't experience any sagging. It is I fairly tight fit carrying the PPS in my pocket and definitely isn't conducive to a quick draw, but I can present it easy enough. It's a backup... I can draw my HK in a flash.

No backup gun....extra mags on occasion and my Coldsteel knife. My daily is a glock 27, unless I'm going to the ranch, I carry my Uberti in 45 LC. I don't carry every day but my next gun purchase will be a shotgun to be carried in my truck toolbox.

Valid point, unless you somehow become separated from your pistol or it is badly jammed or rendered inoperable. I'm sure both scenarios are unlikely, but they are plausible and I'd rather be safe than sorry. Both my primary and backup pistols are chambered in .40 (unless I'm carrying one of my 45's on my hip) so there's no trade off in stopping power between one or the other.

Considering the average self defense gun fight is over in a few seconds I dont feel the need to have an extra gun plus I already carry an extra mag

Guns break and spare magazines don't fire themselves. The odds of needing either a spare mag or a BUG are extremely slim, but if you've got 'em, why not? Sometimes I carry a backup mag as well as a BUG.

    That place east of Waco....
I carry extra ammo to reload after the first gunfight in case a second gunfight happens. Most civilian gunfights are over before anyone gets to reload or draw a second gun. But it doesn't hurt to be ready....
