Robber With Knife Shot Twice, Critically Wounded

    POSTED: Wednesday, June 10, 2009
    UPDATED: 9:39 pm CDT June 10, 2009
SAN ANTONIO -- A bakery clerk turned the tables on an armed robber and may have saved a co-worker's life in the process, police said.According to police, a man in his early 40s walked into a bakery in the 1300 block of Saltillo Street and immediately raised suspicion.Employees told police that when he walked in he looked suspicious, possibly intoxicated. He appeared to be waiting for other customers to leave, police said. The employees' suspicions were confirmed when the man brandished a knife and demanded money. At one point, he walked around the counter and moved to stab a female employee, police said. That's when another employee, who had gone to get a gun, shot the would-be robber once in the chest and once in the arm, police said. The robber dropped the knife, walked out as far as 200 yards and then fell, police said.No one inside the bakery was hurt. Paramedics took the suspect to University Hospital in critical condition. Police suspect he may have been on drugs.Police said they do not plan to charge the employee who shot the suspect, saying that he was defending his co-worker.The suspect will face robbery charges if he recovers.

Hopefully he doesn't lose his job over this. Should have distracted the would-be robber by pelting him with an onslaught of powdered doughnuts to distract him.

    +1 the employees actions

Once had a guy try and rob me and a friend when we were off of Pecan Valley in SA picking up (ironically) doughnut flour for a carnival, he pulled a knife as he approached our vehicle, we drove off... thankfully that ended the confrontation.

Don't know the name of the bakery, but was in the 1300 block of Saltillo. Perp died, guess he's gonna miss being indicted.
Being as how small, neighborhood bakery are known for the large amount of cash they keep on hand, I figure he saw the B in bakery and figured it was a BANK. Que Pendejo!
