New to shotguns, I have a question on how to measure barrel length. I purchased a second hand 12ga pump, chambered for 2 3/4" and 3" shells. I was told the barrel was 28", but it seems longer. Do I measure from were the barrel and the receiver meet? Or should I be including that part of the barrel that extends into the receiver? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Slide a cleaning rod inside the barrel till it hits the bolt face. Measure the amount of rod that was in the barrel. This is done with the action forward and will give you the barrel length.

This is correct. Barrel length is the distance from the bolt face (with the bolt closed) to the muzzle.
