I bought some of the barrier defeating bullets in .224 diameter. Once they leave the box, you couldn't tell them from any other standard projectile.

sorta' true, depending on what the "barrier" is. I guess also there are many bullets out there that are "armor piercing", depending upon the thickness of the armor!

There is no such thing in the real-world as a "barrier."
With proper planning and equipage, any barrier or obstacle can be rapidly overcome.

Regular ole 55gr stuff will sail right through mild steel plates. Hardened steel on the other hand will make the bullet disintegrate upon impact. It's all in the materials.I used to shoot at 1/4" steel plate with .223 FMJ and I can say without hesitation that those projectiles will slice a perfect hole in steel plate.
