Lead bullets are illegal in several states. So if federal law were made against lead bullets, and solid bullets are classified as armor piercing, and every caliber ever made could be classified as a handgun round, then what are we left to shoot?

It has to be made of a material listed above ... notice copper is not on that list, hence why Barnes is still in business and you can legally buy DPX handgun ammo, etc.

M855 is not AP ammo by definition of the rule. It has a hard material cone inside the core, but the core also has lead in it and because it has lead in it the bullet does not fall into the AP category.

I thought the point was showing that S5 Trident 32gr solid brass bullet from Elite Ammo (topic of this thread) fired from a pistol was doing damage similar to bullets fired from a rifle. So I included the link as an example of what is possibly causing the ATF to get their panties in a bunch over the EA Trident ammo.

No, the point was that EA was manufacturing armor piercing ammo.

Armor piercing ammunition. Projectiles or projectile cores which may be used in a handgun and which are constructed entirely (excluding the presence of traces of other substances) from one or a combination of tungsten alloys, steel, iron, brass, bronze, beryllium copper, or depleted uranium; or full jacketed projectiles larger than .22 caliber designed and intended for use in a handgun and whose jacket has a weight of more than 25 percent of the total weight of the projectile. The term does not include shotgun shot required by Federal or State environmental or game regulations for hunting purposes, frangible projectiles designed for target shooting, projectiles which the Director finds are primarily intended to be used for sporting purposes, or any other projectiles or projectile cores which the Director finds are intended to be used for industrial purposes, including charges used in oil and gas well perforating devices.

Wasn't that the reason why solid bullets were created in the first place? In some places (I think only CA) you cannot hunt with any lead bullet.
I don't know. I try to stay away from researching CA gun laws. Once I looked at "the chart" and I felt very sad.
