Got a new battery from Auto Zone for my Corolla, but it's smaller than the ones I've had before. The clamp doesn't actually hold it down:

Is this a problem? Should I do something to clamp it down?

First hard corner and you would of wished you did something to hold it down.

Take bracket off bend it the opposite way and bolt it back down, or buy the correct battery. I have owned many different types of cars and trucks and I don't think any of them had a tie down and I have been fine all these years lol.

If You don't tie it down, it will bounce around and mess up the plates inside and die faster

It can also flip, the positive rest on a metal point, and start a nasty fire (depending on your battery area design).

It looks like your bracket is bent already. Like the last battery was too big and someone bent it up to fit.

Bend that thing so it fits right.
