    I have read that the m1898 used a bayonet and that the m1898/30 did not is this true,

    I have seen bayonet for over $30.00 seems high for a rifle that cost under $110.00

    Yes, the 91/30 used a bayonet. Soviet troops were to keep it attached except while on a transport. They weren't even issued frogs for their bayonets.

    Your rifle should have come with one with a matched serial number.
