Thanks for caring, man. OK, it's not like popeye.... he just gets a good amount of swelling. Plus it itches and that makes it swell more. I was like that as a kid.

But, I do have my eye on him for if he ever gets stung in a location that could be life threating.
    Chew tobacco works good.

Also, the baking soda. Make it a "sludge" (teaspoon with a couple/three drops of water) ...and paste it on..

    As SOON as possible.

Either will draw the venom out.

As much as I don’t react to many stings I still react a little bit to hornets. I hate hornets. Freaking hammers with wings.

I got stung a bunch of times by some wasps last summer, first time I’d ever been stung by anything.

The stings were on/around my knees and they hurt much less than I anticipated.

But they itched like crazy for almost two weeks.

Not that it matters, because your son had an allergic reaction.

Anyway. I've been stung or bitten by most anything but a reptile.
5 minutes or so and I couldn't point out exactly where it was I got tagged.

Red ant and scorpion were the worst, but again soon forgotten .

I hope Popeye is feeling better and has no lasting effects.

I am with Alan on this.

I am a beekeeper as is my wife and she is allergic. Epinephrine is great, but usually simply Benadryl will do the same job. The liquid version works faster and better than pills.

Take photos of the progress and using a Sharpie to mark swelling progress (like a contour map) is a good idea. Include the time with each marking. Photos can be very useful to the doctor to see the actual progress over time. Regular interval images/lines are nice, say hourly or every 2 hours, etc., but not necessary.

Consulting your pediatrician by phone is a great idea. They may have you up the dosage of Benadryl or have you come in to the office. That can often avoid the emergency fees of Urgent care clinics. We have gone both routes.

The doc may have you come in for a steroid shot.

Given the severity of the allergic reaction, you may want to get prescribed and epi pen. We have have them, but per our doctor, drinking Benadryl is just about as effective and timely, is available everywhere, and costs pennies compared to epi pens. Epi pens work on unconscious people which is a huge bonus over Benadryl. Benadryl tends to calm down the patient. Epi, not so much.
