LOL! It was really good. It wasn’t vegan, but it was tasty.

58 year old guy who needs to lose 40 lbs, but I take zero prescription meds and my total cholesterol is 121 (had labs done on 26 Feb 2021.

So yeah, I avoid meat, eggs, and dairy most meals. And my labs show it.

A few years ago we realized dietary cholesterol & serum cholesterol are not directly related. The US government recommendations to limit dietary cholesterol were even lifted after been in place almost 50 years.

All I know is five years ago or so, my BP was 142/95 and my cholesterol, which had been climbing since I hit 50, was at 220. Throughout most of my life, it had been well under 150. But it was climbing with my BP.

I went on a mostly plant based diet (ate animal proteins less than twice a week, sometimes never in a week.

Three month later, cholesterol back around 150, BP 120/70, felt better. Still ate bread, grains, etc., and drank a dram or two of whiskey now and then.

Biggest change was the elimination of almost all animal products

All I know is my starting BP was like yours. A1C was 12.6. Triglycerides were 2k+. I weighed in at 247. After intermittent fasting and change of diet to protein and green vegetables (no carbs or sugar or starches for the most part), Down to 190 lbs so far (10 months) and my BP is now 105/60, cholesterol is 121 and A1C is 5.6. All of my labs are now in the green. Doesn't matter how you do it just get healthier!

There was a time I ate meat with every meal: Bacon/Ham/Steak

My weight and chol. were in tune, but then I exercised like an Olympic athlete and had since my teens well into my late 60's.

Now, meat once a day and little exercise as all the exercise I did in the past wrecked every joint in body.

A mostly plant diet makes me moan, but I may give it some effort as my weight has spiked, bp spiked, chol. spiked.

The one thing I absolutely won't even try is fake burger.

That crap is overloaded with salt and other un-good stuff!

Plus, only a vegan whack job will eat that garbage.

A person can make some of the best burgers right at home if they want to, and it's really not that hard. No shortage of recipes for mixing your own ground meat for burgers, and you can even make custom blends if you have even a small meat grinder.

I like to season very lightly, with just salt and pepper, and occasionally some Cajun seasoning if we want to spice things up a little. If I put any vegetables on my burger, I sure don't want them overwhelming the burger either. There are many times, all I want is good burger patty with some cheese that melted, a bun and some mustard!

Eating an old fashioned burger, like a good steak, is almost a sacrament.

you ride your horse all day
    you get really hungry
you stop at a chuck wagon
    you eat a hamburger
    because you were hungry
you tell the horse it was the best one you have had
    the horse does not care
    If you are a vquero
