Is it a true jam, or is it possible that you are short stoking the action? My buddy has problems with the latter. With the nature of the design there really is no room for error. Not saying anything about you, it could be the nature of Ithaca's as they copied the Browning design (if I'm not mistaken, for all I know they could be made for Ithaca by another party) similar to the way they mirror SKB designs for their double barrelled offerings. Usually on a BPS it is an operator error that creates the jam. But like I said I have no experience with the Ithaca's only the BPS.

No the shot shell gets stuck in the extractor and i just have to pull it out. and sometimes it doesnt load the next shell.

Well Im late to the party with my two cents. There were many fine self defense shotguns mentioned and so much depends on personal preference. However I did not see a lot of nod to a Saiga AK47 Shotgun.
Box fed, extremely reliable. Easy to reload with big clips and much lighter recoil than typical 12 GA. Its pretty darn good in American legal stock conditon at around $500. For the ultimate defense against predators two and 4 legged we recommend our Side folder conversion because it is very easy to store and transportand adjusts pull for family members.
But our GoodGuy Tactical configuaration has fixed stock elsewise has all our great features.
Figure arround twice the cost of a stock gun for one of our customized OneOffs

Benelli. They're more expensive, but I love'em. You can pull the trigger on the last shell in the tube before the first hull hits the dirt.

    My friend,

The 870 12 ga IS the weapon for home defense. Just rack a round in the chamber and listen to the sound - intimidating. The sound makes any butthole pucker!

I was thinking something like a Remington 870 in 12 Gauge loaded with Buck, but I know Mossberg and others have some valid choices. What say ye?

Cut down my Mav 88 to 19 ", to keep the ribbed barrel and my TruGlo turkey sites, added a ATI Collapsible Stock and shell holder, universal light holder. 220.00 total OR..
Check out the Mossberg 500 Persuader tactical in S/S or parkerized. It's smooth barrel will take an ATI heat shroud with ghost ring sites. 369-399.00

I have a Mossberg Maverick 88 for HD that I love. It's loaded with buckshot/slug/buckshot/slug/buckshot and I have a sleeve on it that holds five more shells with the same configuration. ^_^
Luckily I've never had to use it at home, but even with the shorter barrel it holds its own when we shoot skeet.
