Brought the rest of the guns up from Kingsville.

What would be the best way to clean a pretty thick layer of dust off of some scope glass?

If it's beyond the help of an optics cleaning pen, rinsing it with warm water, then warm water with a tiny bit of dawn dish soap with no fragrance added will do an amazing job of cleaning it, rinse and flush away the soap with more warm water. Do not use paper towels to dry. Clean lint free cotton cloth that has never seen fabric softener can be used to dab the lens dry if it all doesn't already just shed off the lens on its own.

Scope is mounted, don't want to remove it, so rinsing with water wouldn't be practical.

I have "canned air", I'll use it first to see how much comes off, hopefully it isn't caked on, and will come off easily.

Products to clean eyewear would probably work. And yes, on the lint-free cloths. They do make some specific to lenses.

I also have the treated wipes for eyeglasses.
We use them all the time.
If the air blasts enough off, I'll use them next.
I'm not in a rush, probably won't ever shoot it again anyway.

Most scopes are sealed, so the advice of putting some warm water might be best. Agitate the water gently with a small brush and then drain it out. Rinse and repeat. Cloth recommendations are spot on. Not sure the make-up of the scope, but most have a finish on the glass so be careful not to scratch it off. Then buy a scope cover :)

Did you see the first paragraph of post #6?

ETA: I wasn't the one that allowed it to get like this.
Trust me, it'll never happen again.

Yep, I read that post. I'm not saying take the whole rifle in the shower, just get some warm water (in a water bottle) and pour a small amount into the bell housing and agitate with small brush then pour it out. You can wrap towel/plastic around the action if needed to prevent water from getting in it. Just a thought.

    Damn.
I was thinking under the sink faucet, or something, lol.
That could work, but only if the canned air doesn't work first.
