    i've sold several firearms to members on this forum. i was hoping they've finally left me some feedback. guess not lol

    I talked to ffl guy at the gun show.

    That 4473 is just a background check!
    If you sell a firearm, something bad happens later on down the road. It gets traced back to the ffl guy.
    That's how he explained it to me.

    I sold a pistol to a elderly man once, he looked like a decent character, shook hands and was on my way.

    Yep. FFL has to keep the 4473 and a gun can be traced to original purchaser from the factory side. Big deal there. If you've sold it or given it away, they would have to build a case that you did something wrong. BOS doesn't really help you there. If you think it does, ask a cop how many people talk themselves out of a ride.

    And as someone else mentioned before... A BOS is hearsay and inadmissable in a criminal court(and civil court for that matter) as proof of anything.

    Only acceptable form of proof:

    Prosecutor: "Do you see the person you sold the firearm sitting in court today?"

    or

    Prosecutor: "Detective SoAndSo, was X able to identify the person he sold the gun to?"

    Detective: "We showed him a photo lineup of 6 people and X circled picture #3".
