By that logic, we should have a mental-health evaluation prior to exercising any constitutional right...

    First amendment?
Please don’t speak freely until you’ve been cleared by the government.

    Unreasonable search and seizure?
Yeah, we’re gonna allow these until you’ve passed our mental health exam.

    Women’s right to vote?
Not so fast...take this test first.

Thanks for beating me to this.
I'd suggest that we also do for all *current* members of Congress.
Doubt that Pelosi would get a check mark.

I wonder what “failing” the test looks like EXACTLY. Because having mental health symptoms does not in itself equal violence risk. People who suffer from mental health conditions deserve the right to self defense just like any of us.

This is spot on. I can give an anecdotal story on this. Several years ago I worked for a retailer who also employed several physically and mentally challenged people. two I worked with both had down syndrome. one of them was very easy going and sweet. He had a good sense of humor too. The other was 180 degrees opposite. He was mean, spiteful and manipulative. Depending on how the proposed law is written, one could get a firearm who certainly shouldn't have them.
Lawmakers cant lump together all mental illnesses together and say those people are equally prohibited.

I also see this being quickly corrupted and doctors being payed to rubber stamp healthy folks as mental and then prohibited.
