I have heard fire ants on the toads. I really wonder if
DDT might have had something to do with the little reptiles demise. A little doesn't hurt you, but it accumulates----
In 1962 the book "Silent Spring" was written by Rachel Carson. It was a big hit. It attacked indiscrininate use of pesticides including DDT. The environmentalist jumped all over it. Shortly thereafter the use of DDT was banned because of the supposedly destruction to wildlife, especially birds. Over use of pesticides definately will cause a imbalance in nature but DDT is the most effective deterent to mesquitos. Since the ban of DDT millions have died in Africa and elsewhere from malaria. Many workers on the Panama Canal died of malaria until DDT was used to kill off the huge mesquito population. Light spraying of DDT would probably not be harmful to the environment but would destroy much of the mesquito population. If someone would even suggest the study of the real impact of DDT they would be instantly attacked by the watermelons in the environmental movement. I can only imagine the rant by Algore. As usual, with the environmental movement, their over reaction and their politics has been a detriment instead of a asset to mankind, which they hold in low regard.
I doubt it was DDT that has killed off the horny toad since it hasn't been used since the mid 60's.
