I purchased access for one month to their entire updated online gun values to get an idea of what all the guns I have are currently valued at. Many business use their information for buying and selling firearms. If anyone is curious what the value is on something you have just let me know.

Here is a sample of one.

You also need to be sure to read the fine print on some models.
I have a shotgun which shows the price for a 12ga.
If you read carefully, it states that the same shotgun, but in 20ga, is worth 100% more, along with other options as well.

Well I'm trying to sell my Walther PPQ and no bites. It's chambered in .40, what's that go for in the book?

    Wow, thanks!

The best condition Pythons are crazy right now. Looks like I paid too much too soon for the Sig. Gonna just hold onto it forever.

While I do use the book.......there are variables is doesn't take into account (like regional availability) and is a guide only............I do buy a new one every year, but they are dropping more manufacturers from the book every year to keep it around the same number of pages......

A lot of folks over estimate the "condition".......and original condition means original..... no trigger jobs, non original parts including grips and sights.......

Try buying some missing S&W and Colt Grips for guns without original grips.....only one thing I take into account when doing an appraisal or buying a gun.....

I have used the online Blue Book for a few years. One of the best features is the price trend for a firearm. It is unavailable on new ones, but really provides excellent information for the previous few years for popular models.

On any given day your firearm is worth what someone will pay you for it. Remember that this just a guideline. Excellent information just the same. Plus some history as well...

My biggest issue w/BB is on some models/makes, they just totally miss the boat. As a long-time Randall collector, I noticed that year after year (while they were still in their book), prices shown were stagnant - while everything I saw was trending up on all the sites. My last straw for really relying on them was when they showed an $1100 or $1200 valuation on a southpaw flattop w/adjustable sights a couple of years ago.......

My biggest issue w/BB is on some models/makes, they just totally miss the boat. .......

I've subscribed to the on-line BB for years.
It's a good starting point and it's to be used cautiously.

I buy and sell and trade a lot.

    My rule of thumb.
Look for the actual BB value.
I try to buy 2-3 placed to the right.
I try to sell 1-2 placed to the right.

The full Blue book value is rarely the actual transaction price.
The full value is the asking price in retail shops, perhaps.

The reality is that I buy/sell/trade for fun.
    1-3 guns every month.
    If I make $100 fine.
    If I loose $200 I don't care.

A good friend has a high volume retail store.
He looks on gunbroker.com at the actual historical sales that take place in the advanced section that we can access with a free membership.
He buys at 2/3 to 3/4 the gunbroker.com sales history price.
He asks what gun broker.com actually sells for and will always negotiate a bit.
    He is very successful.
