I've subscribed to the on-line BB for years.
It's a good starting point and it's to be used cautiously.

I buy and sell and trade a lot.

    My rule of thumb.
Look for the actual BB value.
I try to buy 2-3 placed to the right.
I try to sell 1-2 placed to the right.

The full Blue book value is rarely the actual transaction price.
The full value is the asking price in retail shops, perhaps.

The reality is that I buy/sell/trade for fun.
    1-3 guns every month.
    If I make $100 fine.
    If I loose $200 I don't care.

A good friend has a high volume retail store.
He looks on gunbroker.com at the actual historical sales that take place in the advanced section that we can access with a free membership.
He buys at 2/3 to 3/4 the gunbroker.com sales history price.
He asks what gun broker.com actually sells for and will always negotiate a bit.
    He is very successful.

The BB never saw this coming.........

I had thought about bidding on it, but it got out of my range rather quickly..........
Wow. I would be sorely tempted to take that out and shoot the snot out of it.

Guy I know has some Hi Standard .22 pistols for sale. All from the 40s and 50s and in immaculate condition. I would buy one but would not be able to resist the temptation to shoot the bluing off of it.
