Denny's, IHOP or House of Pies.

Yes I know.....I grew up in central Houston.
In the 70's and 80's Denny's was everywhere, if we wanted IHOP we would have had to go out of our way. We were often in no condition to be driving anywhere, let alone out of our way.

Hell I was told to avoid the House of Guys!
Great food and interesting people makes it worthwhile. Being surrounded by a mostly-gay crowd (which, to be fair, is not all the time) is no problem to me. I can see where the crowd would be offputting to some folks at some times, though.

    easy rider,

I truly miss SAMBOS. = I used to take "my guys" there for breakfast after LONG nights of chasing burglars & poachers, when I was stationed in VA & at Ft Hood, too.

The SAMBOS that I frequented up in VA had HOT BISCUITS & cream gravy, 24/365.
(Because Buddy Noel, who was the local franchise guy, was a former GI, they also had SOS.)

    yours, satx

Sometimes I go to Quicktrip. They now have a kitchen and put out some decent stuff. I was buying the sausage/bacon & egg croissant for a while. Now I am on a gluten free diet (read Wheat Belly if you have time) and now get the egg bowl. Eggs, bacon or sausage, onion, green peppers, mushrooms, olives, skip the cheese, and add Franks Red Hot sauce to it. Its really good!

And you can get the QT app for discounts and ordering online. Its almost always ready for me when I get there, and already paid for.

Chapultepec Lupita on Richmond ave & Spanish Flower on North Main are 2 of the 24 hour joints I remember eating while pretty much shit faced. Neither were convenient or good either the way I remember them.
