Anyone had any experience with a deuce and a half? Where can you get one? What is the best model engine type? What to look for or be aware of?

Multi fuel is the best, a lot of them have been reconditioned and if i recall its called the m35a3. You can get a2s and older all day long. Ive seen them for sale everywhere but a guy in california seems to have the best quality ones from drmo.

I'd like to see one of the old Air Force Peacekeepers for sale.
get that crappy dodge engine out of there and you'd have a decent bug out vehicle

My buddy had one, then another. They're apparently constant work and maintenance. LOTS of fun to take down to the beach and pick girls up in though.

The idea of bugging out is to get away. Half of this is NOT drawing any more attention than necessary. Plain white or grey F-250. If you need bigger than that, you can go up to an F-550 and still look like a regular ol' dually at first glance.

A bobbed Duece is cool, but not practical if you ask me. Still, I've thought about getting one as I could easily park it amongst the hundreds of M35s parked on the range at Camp Bullis. Who'd notice one more?

I do like the Unimogs as well but they still stand out, so my recommendation would be a Jeep Wrangler. I prefer the older TJs, but even the newer JKs with four doors are more suitable than the above vehicles. Stock ones are more capable than people give them credit, but it doesn't take much effort to modify one that is even more able to go places that many vehicles cannot.

Plus, you could easily get use out of a Jeep until such time as needed. You can't say the same for a 2½ ton Army truck!

I have a 4 door Wrangler, I like it for a BOV buy another consideration could be a Suburban. Plenty of room and can get in 3/4 ton diesel. Just a thought.

It'd be a KLR 650 with panniers for me. With all the vehicles that might be clogging roadways I want something more mobile and all terrain. Add to that incredible fuel economy and ease of repairs and it wins out in my book.
