I'm at a point piecing a rifle together where I need to think about the trigger. I can go buy a Timney any time for $150 shipped, but I could also buy a new or barely used old-style take-off for about a third of that. I'm a little familiar with the old fluff & buff on the original setup, but I have no personal experience with the Timney trigger.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I just bought a used Remington 700P in .223 with the old style trigger. It was pretty decent from the factory, but I did a trigger job on it last weekend and a HUGE improvement. I have it breaking at 1.5 lbs like a glass rod and have tried to get the pin to drop by actually ramming the bolt home dozens of times and dropping it from about 4 feet high on it's butt stock. Good to go and ready to get it's first kill! So to answer your question, I'd buy an old style and save a little money so you can shoot a little more.
