i remember buying my first mosin (first gun ever) from gander for $130 and thinking i overpaid. I did, at the time, but now we are selling mosins for $179 at gander.

Never bought a used gun before but from what I have seen at Cabelas they are not gong to let me look through their stock of used rifles to pick one like that are they?

It's been a while since I've been by Cabela's but the last time I was there they had their Mosins out on the floor so you can check the barrels all you want.

Just bring a bore light with you!

Yep. Tons of them and you can look all you want. I bought one last year on Black Friday for $100. They come with the kit too. Bayonet, ammo pouches, cleaning kit and sling.

Cabelas usually has already checked them per one of their gun guys. The bore on mine was perfect.

I thought so too. I was buying something else when I saw it. So I got that too. Then I bought a can of ammo from Geri at Copes. Still haven't shot the darned thing. It still has the cosmoline on it.

When I was there, last Friday, they had about 8 I think. Unfortunately they were all reproductions. Well the scopes and mounts were, the rifles appeared original. Although, I will say I noticed a few barrels with no scope number so those were probably completely fake. If they hadn't been asking the same price as for an original I might have picked one up.

So, in the vein of ignorance, what is the appeal for Mosins? I ask because I am curious. Might be something to consider as a long gun purchase.
