It got to the point not many years ago in Egypt. In their case the Military commander refused to comply with an order to fire on the millions of mass demonstrators in the streets. Instead he arrested Morsi and the Muslim Brotherhood leaders. Morsi is gone, many of Muslim Brotherhood are gone -some are still in prison. And General Sisi became President Sisi. And he still has widespread following among Egyptians. ( I know several people in Cairo, I watched it daily as it transpired in Egypt)

The USA is NOT the same as Egypt, but defiance of despots is not a force that is only found in US history.
