Latest headline on the news ticker is another state is considering going to speed cameras on highways and roads. Yet another attack on our privacy as citizens trying to be passed off as some kind of life saver.

The Brits hate the cameras and they've been proven to be nothing more than revenue generation for the government. People there slam on their brakes to avoid being caught by the camera, which is 10 times more likely to cause a wreck than someone traveling 5 - 10 MPH over.

What we need is a real driving exam if you want to save lives. Otherwise the rest of this mindless country will continue to do everything but drive when they are on the roadways. That's the difference between the Germans and us... and the reason why many of their highways are unrestricted. The difference isn't just a stereotype... they really are that much better at driving.

According to this article its something far more insidious than an automated ticketing machine.

Here are the highlights with some formatting on the important bits:

Instead of tracking, for example, only those who exceed a certain speed threshold, the plate readers will store a video image of the front passenger compartment and rear license plate of every single passing vehicle. Optical character recognition software identifies the registered vehicle owner and allows for easy indexing of the time and location of travel for each person identified using the highway.

The Senate-passed bill gives police broad authority for the first time to use this information to prosecute any state or federal crime, as long as it is not a traffic violation "punishable by fine only." The bill also specifies that the cameras may be used to find suspects in amber alert cases, missing senior citizens and those accused of killing a police officer. The capability to search for suspects is exactly what troubles one civil rights group.

British authorities have been using ANPR for several years, working to centralize ANPR data to allow police to keep tabs on criminals and political opponents. A data center in North London offers real-time, nationwide tracking capability. Australian and American red light camera companies hope to offer the same centralized tracking services in the US.

Its a bit beyond Orwellian in my opinion.

damn, whats next the type of surveillance they use in casinos...?

this is starting to get out of hand
Certainly is! I don't rob banks, I don't put razor blades in the carmel apples at the christmas party and I do not feel the need to shoot up a public place. I would venture to guess that would describe at the very least 95% of the general public, WTF makes it OK to track my movement threw this state or this country? I don't think it is wanted by a majority of citizens or needed. It is ridicules to take every thing from Europe and act like they are the Joneses. They have a socialistic government that makes a lot of people leave to come hear to get away from it and be free. that should tell these people something. We don't need this shit we are capable of deciding what is best for us.

Texans have a bad habit Europeans lack, especially on long stretches of rural road...

Dam I hate this crap.
I do live near a red light camera and it has stopped the almost daily wrecks caused by red light runners but this is going way to far.

Years ago Arlington, TX put cameras on Hwy 303 back when it was an open stretch. over a period of time before they were removed I saw signs of shotgun damage, spray paint and who knows what else. Arlington revenuers finally pulled them down. I was never a victim of their cameras as I guess I drove under the speed limit or if not they were likely damaged as to be inop.

I'm thinking a little more risk and a lot more fun and in reality it would be a blast.
Equipment:
1) long gun of shooters choice with a minimal of a 200 yard ability.
2) gillie suite
3) 2 hand held two way radios (Nextel) for look out person and shooter. Ear bud for shooter wearing gillie suite
4) Spotting scope
5) 5 lbs of Tannereite
6) vehicle to exit operational zone in and provide shooter platform.
Y'all see this coming don't ya!
Can you imagine the head lines the next day!
20 miles of highway cameras exploded - details at 6:00

You make a gillie suit out of a green bed sheet and some camo colored rags. And yes some will need to do the "ordinance" placement. Hmmmmmmmmm Alan you up for some LATP. All you have to do is get to the top of the pole and place the tannerite and then come back and shoot it.
like LARPer only LIVE ACTION TARGET PRACTICE.

You can spray your license plates with a high gloss Clear spray paint and it will mess up the pics. Government motors will have them in all new cars, sensor city.
