    Ok here are the details.

    1911-a1

    .45 super

    serial is N362###

    Top says S.A .45Auto

It looks like a longer champion.

The guy wants $450 for it. When we took it apart a white round plastic washer was broken so I need to get another one.

.45 Super | Guns Magazine | Find Articles at BNET
    ------------------------------------------------------------
Q: The December issue's Gun of the Month is chambered for a round called the .45 Super. What exactly is the difference between the .45 Super and the .45 ACP?

    Jim Golden
    Dobson, NC

A: In a word, power. The .45 Super is a beefed up .45 ACP case and drives a 230-grain bullet at 1,100 fps and 185 grainers as fast as 1,300 fps. Developed by Dean Grennel, the .45 Super was made by shortening .451 Detonics cases (which had a beefier case based itself on the .45 Win Mag) to .45 ACP length, reducing the firing pin hole to keep primer flow under control and adding heavier recoil springs. Fitting a barrel fully supporting the chamber is a big plus. Although .45 Super will chamber in a .45 ACP barrel, shooting such will batter an unconverted 1911 to pieces in short order.

Today, Buffalo Bore (P.O. Box 78, 100 Freeman Creek Rd., Carmen, ID 83462, 208/756-8085, Home Page) is one of the only companies currently making .45 Super ammunition. Starline (1300 West Henry, Sedalia, MO 65301, 660/827-6640, Starline Brass - Maker of America's Finest Handgun Brass) makes reasonably priced high-quality .45 Super brass.

One shop specializing in building and converting 1911s, S&W autos and Glocks into .45 Supers is Ace Custom 45s (596 CR 2250, Cleveland, TX 77327, 281/659-1017, Ace Custom 45s, Inc.).

I'm thinking it's an older custom model. They have been firing regular .45 ammo in it with no problems.

The guys grandfather was a gunsmith and he might have changed the spring. He is not sure.

I got a hold of SA and they said it's a custom gun. It was made in 97 and they don't have the exact specs anymore.

They said a base custom is $1500 and they go up from there.

It has a match grade barrel and a bunch of extra stuff.
