I am in the process of relocating to Austin and I currently have a valid AZ CCW. I understand that TX has a reciprocity agreement (like many other states) with AZ. Once my Texas residency is established (ASAP), I will be applying for my TX CCW immediately. My question, however, is whether or not I can legally carry with my AZ permit once I establish TX residency even though I could carry before as a non-resident.

I feel like the legal answer would be no, otherwise people would just apply for whatever permits were easiest to get (such as AZ) as non-residents that had reciprocal agreements with their home state and just carry with those. Am I correct in assuming that once I establish residency here, I am no-go to carry (except for in my car, I believe?) until my TX permit arrives?

I am sure this question has been covered somewhere before, my delirious brain just can't figure out the query.

Lots of Texas residents carry under AZ out of state permits. Only two minor reasons not to, one the Fed School Zone Law and the second is that they have to call in a NCIS check on you if you buy a gun from a dealer. Bunch of reasons to carry under a AZ out of state, easy to get, cheap, lasts a longer time, faster, no class requirement, no range time and expense, etc.
