Carry handgun question

I been looking for a while and shot SPFD XD, Sig Sauer 2022 and likem both. I've been reading about the Sti Gp6 sounds like a great gun for the money but haven't shot it yet. This is my first carry gun. I'd like to learn from you guys some mistakes not to make. I want a 9mm and a gun my wife will shoot. I have med small hands so high cap grips or too fat. I hunt with a Contender, and Super Blackhawk 44Mag. I shoot a 22 auto target pistol. That being said what are some of the safe autos you carry. I've been carrying in trucks and cars for years. Don't want to shoot myself in the foot if you know what I mean. Shooting them and carrying them are very different. Any help or advise would be great. Great Board!

I carry various 1911s from 3.5 inch to 5 inch and the occasional 380 colt government. Sometimes for fun, a hog leg.

First rule of thumb - your wife has to find it comfortable, so make trips to the range...

I have medium sized hands too. If you're looking for a great gun for the money, look at a Steyr M9-A1 (CDNN Sporting Goods - Abilene) the pistol is $349 and you will probably want to order an extra mag. I own one and the ergonomics are amazing! Made in Austria.

The Glocks (17, 19, etc.) are just unstoppable - the "energizer bunny" of weapons.

I've also heard very nice things about the Walther PPS. Guys get one for their wife, and come back a couple of months and get one for themselves.
