Carving images?

How do I carve images to hard plastic grips made out of resin and hardner?

That's probably the best way to get a consistent engraving. I've tried to carve stuff into plastic before using a knife, for example, and I've noticed that straight lines are no big deal however curved lines are much tougher and easier to screw up.
