Nice except not everyone follows the law. Guess that's why this topic exists.

Finally caught a thief in our subdivision, saw about 6 sheriff cars, going through a guys house. Converter sitting on the grass, guy got out of his car across the street. Told me he heard something in his driveway, saw the guy taking the converter off of his truck. Followed the guy at a safe distance, when the guy went to his house, he called the sheriff. In the neighborhood group people were talking about the guy, said he'd been driving a stolen car.

I saw a pic of a gas theft guy the other day. Looked like Richard Pryor after his free basing incident running around stopping dropping and rolling trying to put the fire out. The electric drill sparked a fire. Lol

Reminded me of the uneasy rider song lines

An' I guess I shoulda gone ahead an' run
But somehow I couldn't resist the fun
Of chasin' them jes' once around the parkin' lot
Well they're headin' for their car but I hit the gas
And spun around and headed them off at the pass
Well I was slingin' gravel and puttin' a ton of dust in the air
Well I had them all out there steppin' an' a fetchin'
Like their heads were on fire and their asses was catchin'

All the cat thefts are still are still going strong. Our shop has a sister shop that just does exhaust. They've put on hundreds of Prius and other Toyota cats and cat shields in the last year or so. The value especially in the 2nd gen Prius is the Rhodium content. It's currently worth over $13500 per ounce ! Not sure how much is in each one but our cat buyers said they're worth $1200.

When my co worker totaled his I almost bought it just to pull the original cat and battery out and resell them. Probably 2k right there. Anyhow commercial vehicles have also been hit hard because the dpf exhausts are also expensive. My buyer said he's supposed to log the vehicle info but the guys that do regular business could easily sneak in a few hot ones. Although he said they're all going out of state.

Remember the thief who got trapped under a car from which he was stealing a cat and then he was pleading with the owner (gramma, IIRC) to call 911? :D

All too many of the CC thieves are armed and quite willing to shoot nowadays. That is how the Deputy was killed off 1960 and Aldine Westfield in Houston in April. He confronted three men while they were stealing a CC. He was wounded in the ensuing fight and got two of them.
