Anyone know what the fee is for this class offered by DPS to be a licensed CHL instructor? I know i need the NRA Pistol Cert since im not LEO yet lol Guy i found in Mansfield charges 250 total for the NRA cert during a two day (fri and sat) course. Im in Granbury, if anyone could recommend another NRA cert instructor? maybe cheaper or offering a sooner course than the second week of May?

    Thanks in advance everyone!

LEO's do not get a pass on needing prior instructor certification to qualify as a CHL Instructor Applicant.

DPS charges one hundred bucks for Instructor course

Do you mean how much does it cost to be "some sort" of state or national organization-"recognized" instructor prior to taking your DPS CHL Instructor course?

Why, whatever the NRA Training Counselor decides to charge you. $250 is fair, based on personal experience but I may be biased.

The best part about the DPS CHL class is being lectured...at length, ad nauseum, about "guns" from a true expert whose background is as a driver's license clerk before she was assigned to the CHL department and had to learn how to shoot...and about customer service (oops, fail) and the law (again, oops). Oh, the joy.

Be aware that the NRA will require you to actually do at minimum 1 NRA Pistol course every year and report the students and class to the NRA via the NRA Instructors portal website. Failure to do this will result in the NRA not renewing your credentials.

The NRA has begun to actually enforce their own rules concerning NRA Instructors.

    Hotel.

The classes run late because driver's license clerks do not know how to get to the damn point ;)

    Try again, son.

In "the olde days" the DPS 'instructor' instructors were...a lawyer (who hated people carrying guns in "her" DPS office) and some range staff. Staff both familiar with the law and with teaching people how to shoot.

The last iteration of "instructor" training featured a range staffer who could both shoot and teach shooting and...a 'promoted' driver's license clerk who, by her own admission, had no idea how to shoot and (according to the lawyer I was sitting next to, as well as the plain language of the law) no real concept of...the law. It was...great...fun...
