    GRATUITOUS RUDENESS

I’ve noted a recent precipitous decay of civility here.

Insults and rude comments from those who were not involved, or didn’t even read the exchanges, have become commonplace.

Until now, those could just be ‘’ignored’’.

Yesterday, I got this, from a ‘’MOD’’ here, to a general comment I had made on a thread:

‘’My Ram truck is a 2015.
    Well over 200,000 miles.one owner.
It's been places you'll only dream of taking your "off road" vehicle.
    Shut up and drive.’’

I had not addressed this person, nor made any directed comment towards him or his post.

I can assure this audience that he has no knowledge of my activities, or he’d never have said anything like that.

This is just one glaring example, but this time from a site ‘’Mod’’, who can’t be blocked or ignored.

This type of unnecessary and uncalled-for rudeness is ruining what was a very enjoyable site & forums.

I don’t refer to disputes, which can become heated; but to GRATUITOUS rudeness.

If the Owners of this site approve of this, then we’ll all know what to expect.

I’ll wait for an OFFICIAL’ reply.

After reading many of your posts much of this is self inflicted.

I'm guessing the OP is unwise to make a public matter of his thin skin, and may not like the outcome.

I enjoy back and forth with you; b/c you are knowledgeable, reasonable, and civil.

Sometimes we both go-on for too long; but that’s expected.

One of your most redeeming qualities is that you know lots of interesting things which I don’t know, but find very interesting.

    So, I value your commentaries.

Perhaps the COVID debacle has left us all a bit scarred.

Admittedly, I sometimes do provoke, and I may deserve the result. I can understand, even expect, those; but, that is not my topic here.

    ’’GRATUITOUS’’

    Inappropriate, uncalled-for, undeserved, out-of-context, etc. !

Is gratuitousness like pornography? That is, are we talking subjective or objective criteria to determine gratuitousness?

If you want an official reply, PM me and I can help with that. However, my first impression is that MTA has it right with:

Think you might be taking a comment made in jest a little too personal

I know the mod in question. Hes a stand up guy and isnt mean spirited in anyway

Not directly related to topic, intentionally offensive, and totally unprovoked.

From a member, we can reply in kind or ‘’ignore’’; but a « Mod » has several unfair advantages.

Of course, I may have different opinions and experiences; isn’t that the POINT of these fora (forums); to discuss, debate, etc. ?

Who wants to deal in unprovoked unpleasantness ?

I hope that I’ve never been rude here WITHOUT provocation. Disagreement is not being rude. Nor is pointing out errors of fact or hypocrisy.

I have seen this before, and the sites eventually collapsed. I hope this one can endure.

I have yet to see any of our moderators display the behavior you have observed.
I also realize moderators could post something that’s a violation of our code of conduct. If that were to happen, hit the report button.
