After completely disassembling my Colt Government 380 and carefully assembling it I have a safety problem. When I cock the hammer I can't engage the safety until I push the hammer back a bit more, maybe 1/16 inch, then the safety will click in and operate normally. Why do I have to give it a little extra push? Any advice is appreciated and happy new year.

It's been a while since I've had mine apart completely disassemble and reassemble I think you have a spring out of proper location.
I considered that but the spring in this thing are kinda a one way only type. Even the sear only works one way. I've eyeballed it every way but I can't see a problem.

Okay, I don't have mine in front of me right now and I'm not at home. From memory, I am thinking you have the surface bearing/notch behind the mainspring when it should be in front of it, or vice versa.

I know that isn't much to go on but it's the best I can do right now.

I'll take a look at that. It seems the hammer doesn't go back far enough but you may be right. FYI I'm just up the road from you in Walker County.
