Has anyone else had much experience with these? I have an original M1917 and I've been using moon clips with it. It's annoying to load however, since the bullets are a bit too 'floppy' in the clip and don't always chamber right as a result.
Is this just a result of cheap repro moon clips or a just an expected normal?

    Gunz are icky.
How are you loading and unloading your moons?
They can get bent out of whack.

Check out the BMT Mooner tool. Pricey but it loads and unloads your moons.
I use one for a S&W M625. Makes quick work of it.
The N-frame six shot model will work with the 1917 Colt.

When I say the rounds are held loosely and floppy I mean as in the metal seems to thin, like cheap repros. I'm not sure if that's all round or normal.
The clips are fairly new so they're not deformed at all.
I've never tried Speedbeez or TK though. Theirs looked like full moon clips. I personally prefer the half moons in this revolver.

Here is my Colt US Army Model of 1917 .45ACP serial number 119613 1918 production. Came with half and full moon clips and I've had good results using both.

I've purchased clips from TK Customs, and a loading/unloading tool possibly from them too. No problems other than some difficult to load clips (hence the tool) that I did file down a bit.

I usually shoot my Model 1917 using half or full moon clips. Bought several hundred rounds of .45 auto rim from Georgia-arms.com at a decent price. They shoot fine in my 1917, but since everything went to hell in the ammo market, Georgia-Arms is no longer loading the round. Hopefully, when things normal up, they'll bring it back.

The M1917 wasn't designed for full-moon clips; the design used half-moon clips, and that's how military ammo was loaded.

The full-moon clips, while faster on the reload, are an aftermarket accessory, with all that entails.

I find the half-moon clips easier to carry in a pocket for backup, but at the range its easier to go with full-moon clips. I've never had a problem using full-moon clips in my Colt. Not a gun I'd prefer to carry concealed, more of a range gun for me.
