Anyone experiencing a layoff or pay reduction as a result of the Coronavirus hysteria? I may be facing one or the other and should know more later this week. Still processing what to think about it. They are using the term temporary furlough. I get that companies are facing hard times and this may be a way to address it rather than to just cut the workforce altogether.

No. The forecast I was privilege to today estimated as many as 2.5M-5M newly unemployed over the next 30 days would not be unreasonable to hear in a worst-case scenario.

(Just passing along). I saw were Amazon is hiring 150K new (?temporary?) workers - don’t know the details; just scanned the headline. I’d guess local hospitals might have the ‘help wanted’ signs out too - but probably just lower level cleanup/sanitizing-type help would be my guess. We’ve likely got four to six rough months ahead of us until the economic jitters are completely gone (just me, guessing).

We layed off all but me and the boss and I'm supposed to be taking a 40% cut... :/ Hopefully we can make it through and re-hire when we start getting jobs again.

Before I was told we are classified as essential, I was already pondering a stocking position at HEB, they are hiring lots of folks right now. It would have been a huge paycut but it would have been temporary and kept some money coming. Several weeks off wouldn’t kill us money wise but nice to always be making some. I’d do whatever I had to make sure I didn’t just sit around, not gonna let my kids see that.

I hear 20% reduction is what I'd being talked about where I am. Better than a layoff and hoping very short term.

I hear that. Much of our business loss is due to other companies shutting down due to COVID-19. Many bought equipment and installations that they have had to postpone. Once they go back to work, so should we. Hoping this anomole is very short term. I did not expect this to go anywhere near this far.

We've lost a lot of orders, but we think most of it will come back once things get done - but it's going to take a while to recover and we'll be pretty tight if we make it through and you know many many of the big companies aren't exactly fast about paying, so even once we start burning money to take care of customers, it'll likely be 30 days before our bank account starts picking back up. The ripples from this are gonna be pretty deep. I actually thought it was going to do this, but how do you stop a freight train?

Indeed. Sad that much of the panic is needless.

I work for the largest primary care physician group in East Tennessee. 80 plus percent of our few hundred person workforce at the corporate office is considered non-essential and are forced to use sick or vacation time until 4/6. I'm in IT and am a data analyst. I'm a SQL reporting guy. I'm considered essential for the running of the business. My wife, who also works at the central office, as an auditor, is considered non-essential. She has plenty of accrued time to weather this storm, so no biggie. I'll just be working from home the whole time, which I'm very used to doing. I think the ones who are going to be most affected in our household are the two dogs, since we're now interrupting their nap time by being home all of the time. I'm thankful we are in this position but I feel for all of those who have lost their jobs. This is going to change the lives of a whole lot of people.

Phuck Dallas county judge Jenkins. You can't tell people their lives are more important than financial lives as they are so intertwined. Millions are just now in the black after Obama's bullshit and they won't put up with shelter in place orders based on made up numbers of millions in texas who might be sick someday. Especially when we haven't had a million cases in the world yet.

Thank god I dont live in Dallas county.

We got pizza tonight, went n got it. We ordered the first week but I'm not wasting money when I've got a couple months worth of food so carefully put away. I'm saving money for Bill's 6 or 8 weeks from now.

We have worked hard to get credit scores and finances recovered from the great recession and I'll be damned if it happens again. Im too old to spend a decade recovering again.

I won't collapse quietly either. No quietly going into the night financially.
