    Most big corporations donate to both sides.
    Why would a corporation donate to a political fund either way? Surely not ALL the stockholders lean one way or the other so it's not to their benefit, and it seems like contributions could alienate large clocks of consumers. If they are doing it just for a tax write off, it seems like it would make more sense to donate to an actual charity that's less controversial than political candidates.

    I just don't get how it would help the corp or it's shareholders... unless of course they are trying to court political favors. If that's the case then I would be leery of large donations to either party. That's overall shady business...

    That is exactly what it is. Big contributions give you a voice when an issue that affects you comes up. That is why the big corps. give to both parties.

    Stockholders may or may not have any idea about the company's contributions. Some may and others may not.
