We must not allow our enemies and the enemies of our U S Constitution to control the "national discourse", either by designing deceptive terms, or by setting false premises.

Yet, the geniuses at "Open Carry Texas", by their foolish but legal displays of long guns in places they were unwanted, has fed our opponents more ammunition to use against us.

Indeed, O C T gave our enemies pictures and stories which were used to cast us all in bad light with our urban voting public.

We all know to reject all media terms such as "common sense gun laws", "for the children", "safe storage", and other Trojan ponies. Similarly, we must promptly disassociate ourselves from misleading IMAGES !

Having lived in states with long time LEGAL "open carry"; it has been a total non-issue where folks are accustomed to seeing holstered pistols out and about.

Let us all learn this lesson; and next time, if there is a "next time", please immediately and emphatically reject "help" from fringe groups like O C T.

We must both act responsibly and LOOK responsible at all times to avoid a repeat.

Personally, and while I agree with the optics you mention, ain't about to get upset with anyone exercising a Constitutionally guaranteed right.

Their "exercise of the right" is not the point; the issue was HOW they did what they did, their belligerent manner, their "in your face" attitudes, and the places they chose.

Had Texas not seen this arrogant display, we'd probably not have the extra "open carry not allowed" premises restriction legislation and its signage.

Although I agree that concealed carry is the better option for most of us, most of the time; we would be better retaining the option. Also, O C would eventually show / teach the public that it was not a threat to them.

I disagree. We got stuck with 30.07 because 30.06 already existed. 30.06 exists as an expansion on TPC 30.05, Criminal Trespass. That expansion (30.06) was a compromise sold to the legislature as a way to calm (unfounded) fears and allow property owners to effectively ban concealed carry, yet not prohibit the person from entering their property.

You can thank Houston House Rep Bill Carter for that.

? I don't understand this, seems backwards to me.

Several large businesses open to the public lobbied to get 30.06 put on the books to keep guns out of their stores. The rationale was for public safety. The intent was to allow business owners to create gun free zones on their property.

Well, there’s this, which I responded to.

I assumed you were referring to the 30.07 signage.

Can you give us some examples of these occurrences? I am seeing a lot of accusations with no meat on the bones to prove what you are talking about? I am not a fanboy of Grisham but if the law says he can carry somewhere and government officials are in denial and not obeying the law he has the right to do so and to also protest these government officials not in compliance with the law.

Businesses always had the right to ban open or concealed carry. 30.06 and 30.07 just meant they could do it with signage as opposed to having to address every person individually.
