Two rifles I want to add to the collection recently appeared for sale at the same time.

    Genuine Win 92 in 44 spl for $1000 and a Century VZ 2008 in 762x39 for $750.

Which would you get? I have a Cimarron 73 in .44 spl already as well as a Russian AK. I doubt I’ll see either opportunity again.

Although the Winchester is a re-blue with a modern Marbles tang sight, I would choose the Winchester..A) I believe that it will appreciate faster. B) Reality is that "assault" rifles are going to soar on the black market but legal sales are going to drop rapidly. C) I enjoy shooting my lever guns more than my 3 "assault" rifles and with the price of ammo my days of keeping two cans bouncing are gone. That said that CZ is a rockstar!

44 mag yes, 44 special no. My Marlin lever is 44 mag. I prefer lever over AK but nothing is cheaper to shoot than AK. So, I would hold out and not get either.

As an owner of both a cz VZ 58 as well as a vz2008 I can tell you the originals are much nicer. When I bought my vz2008 it was a mere $379. The dtechnic(Czech) was almost $800. The vz2008s run a tighter chamber that wouldn't eat my reloads until I started using a small base die.

They are about equal in accuracy. Back then(2008ish) magazines were 10 for $129 now they're about $30 each. The Czech originals are extremely reliable well made all aluminum ones. My vz2008 was also extremely raspy and had a burr in the bolts recoil spring channel. Lil file work and polishing fixed that.

Anyhow, I love a good lever gun but the window is closing on the VZs so id go for it first.

Are you talking true select fire assault rifles or the devilcrap definition?
Back in the 70's I had two sub guns and three assault rifles, My post used italics around "assault" meant to imply that incorrect definition used by left leaning law makers (devilcrap), which any new restrictions will address ALL semi automatic weapons with magazine capacities greater than around 10 rounds. I still have a FAL (L1A1) an AR-15 now which I referred to as dual can bouncers...after my post, I realized that the 92 also had a replacement barrel so not worth the $1000 the CZ better collector and value at $750.

Thanks for posting the thread, Tonelar. It caused me to do a bunch of googling, and learned a little today.
I’ve never been an AK guy, and wrongly called the VZ an AK. So, I read up on the VZ58, and the 2008.
    The more you know.

i learned more about the 1906 era 92 and it is definitely a refurbished (caliber conversion to .44 magnum). So, I don’t believe it’s worth the $1000.

coyote and baboon: a very comon error is mistaking the terms “assault rifle“ and “assault weapon”.

When you said it was a .44 sp, I assumed it was a modern Japanese gun, as that caliber was not available on an original prewar ‘92.
If you want an original ‘92, I would highly recommend Austin’s guns on GunBroker.

I have bought most of my old guns from him, great guy that comes across some really cool old guns. He doesn’t have a lot right now, but he starts new auctions on Mondays, and they are always, penny start, no reserve auctions.

nope it’s a turn of last century gun that was converted and refinished a number of years ago. i wrote original winchester for that reason. i’m aware of the miroku made guns, i have an 86 and 92 that were winchester licensed.

I’m not a collector, my guns get shot in CAS matches.
I also reload but am not interested in adding other calibers either.

I am not a big fan of Century firearms, but a VZ is so hard to come by, and truly great weapon. If you think an AK is dependable wait till you own a VZ.
